Nervous about mixing metals? Start slow and mix rings of the same metal in different textures.

A little layered jewelry can instantly give the world a peek at your complex, creative style. Artfully stacked rings lend a charming touch to a simple outfit, and as you’ll probably discover, mixing and matching your rings can make old staples feel like edgy new additions.

There’s not really a right or a wrong way to layer your rings. Here's my best advice: bravely experiment until you find a combination that suits you

You may learn that you love mixing metals—if so, go for it! The formerly hard and fast rules of jewelry wearing don’t really apply to this fun trend. In fact, as you play around, you’ll probably start breaking a few of you own personal fashion guidelines.

Don't be afraid to get a little crazy. See what happens when you feature an oversized ring with more delicate rings in different metals.

If you have no idea where to begin, here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Combine textures (of metal and stone). See what happens when you mix a beaded ring with a hammered wire ring—or a gemstone ring with a semi-precious stone ring—think diamond ring + turquoise ring.  Combine polished and matte or translucent and opaque. Ah, the possibilities!

In the Modern Meets Organic Wedding Set, different textures of recycled gold complement each other while reflecting the multi-faceted personality of the wearer.

  • Use a thick ring as the base then layer midi-rings (above-the-knuckle rings) on top.
  • Mix metals. Subtly mix metals like yellow and rose gold OR boldly mix metals like yellow gold and oxidized silver. You can also try mixing metals on the same hand while keeping each finger in the same metal.

Stack different colors of Branch Bands for a modern, eclectic look.

Find balance. Keep a finger bare on each hand and decorate the rest. Also, try featuring a single oversized ring and adorn the rest of your had with delicate bands.

What are your favorite ways to combine jewelry?

That’s great, Juhea! I am normally fairly understated with my rings, so it was really fun to break all the “rules” and try something more eclectic!
