When you’ve found the partner you want to spend the rest of your life with, many start thinking about commitment. The engagement ring is the symbol of your commitment to each other and to a future created by the two of you. A custom engagement ring can incorporate ideals important to one or both of you.
In this case, the prospective fiancée is a dedicated vegan and eco conscious, preferring recycled gold and gems rather than newly mined materials. With that as a starting point, the prospective groom went on a journey to find the perfect ring.
Once a budget was set and he had described his partner’s lifestyle and preferences, we discussed the options. Recycled rose gold and a magnificent pre-owned diamond were quickly agreed upon.
But there are so many choices in pre-owned stones! Would she prefer the charm of an antique stone or modern brilliance of a pre-owned diamond that was mined more recently? What shape should it be – round, cushion or a unique fancy cut?
I shopped the diamond market and, over two separate consultations, presented numerous pre-screened options. See some of them on right. In this case, the second consultation included a professional appraiser to independently verify the value of the stones under review. As we discussed the merits of each stone, he was able to refine his requirements and come to a final decision, a stunning Old Euro K color, VS1 clarity, a little larger than 2.75 carat. (Most antique diamonds are I-N color range) Along the way, he also consulted with his sister who was his sounding board and confidant during this important process.
Once the diamond was chosen, a distinctively organic twig band with a classic four prong mounting was selected to complete the ring. Voila, a unique upcycled engagement ring created with minimal on the environment.
Needless to say, the bride was delighted and surprised too, when he presented it to her minutes after crossing the finish line of a NYC half marathon. Congratulations E+J!
We welcome the opportunity to create custom jewelry to celebrate important milestones in your life or in the life of a loved one.
